Health Tip: Cook Eggs the Right Way
(HealthDay News) -- Cooking eggs properly can help reduce the risk of a food-borne illness, so it's important to make sure eggs are always thoroughly cooked.
The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics lists these tips to help make sure eggs are properly cooked:
-
Cook eggs of any style (scrambled, boiled or fried) until yolks are firm instead of runny.
-
Make sure egg-based dishes, such as casseroles or quiches, are cooked to an internal temperature of 160 degrees or higher by using a food thermometer.
-
Never taste or eat raw eggs alone or in uncooked foods such as cookie dough or cake batter.
-
Skip the raw eggs called for in recipes like Caesar dressing and instead substitute with a pasteurized liquid egg or egg substitute.
